Matches to Make After UFC Vegas 107

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to the UFC Apex for UFC Vegas 107. The 10-fight card was supposed to be headlined by a five-round fight between women’s flyweight contenders Erin Blanchfield and Maycee Barber, which was canceled at the last minute due to Barber suffering a medical emergency. While it was an underwhelming end, the main card winners will be involved in some more interesting fights later this year.

Here are five matches to make following UFC Vegas 107.

Erin Blanchfield vs. Alexa Grasso

You’ve got to feel terrible for Blanchfield, who was robbed the opportunity of getting to punish Barber for missing weight. Blanchfield wasn’t interested in rebooking the fight and it’s hard to blame her for feeling that way. I’d like to see “Cold Blooded” go up against Alexa Grasso next. The former flyweight champion is coming off defeats to Valentina Shevchenko and Natalia Silva, so a fight against Blanchfield will show if she’s still an elite competitor at 125. It will also give Blanchfield an opportunity to notch the biggest win of her career and earn a title shot with a win. The fight makes a ton of sense, so hopefully it is next for both women.

Mateusz Gamrot vs. Grant Dawson

Gamrot showed Ludovit Klein that there are levels to mixed martial arts as he outclassed his fellow lightweight over three rounds. With the win, "Gamer" is now 25-3 as a pro and has won four of his last five fights. While a recent loss to Dan Hooker will keep the Polish fighter from taking on a top contender next, a fight against the streaking Dawson would make plenty of sense. Dawson (23-2-1) has put together three straight wins and is looking for a step up in competition. “KGD” will force Gamrot to show off his well-rounded game and it’d be an fun fight with plenty of divisional importance.

Ramiz Brahimaj vs. Trey Waters

Brahimaj put together a second-straight win inside the UFC by submitting Billy Goff with an extremely tight guillotine choke. Losses to Themba Gorimbo, Court McGee and Max Griffin have shown the welterweight’s ceiling, but he’s still a fun addition to any Fight Night card. I’d like to see Brahimaj (12-5) test Waters next. “The Truth” is also coming off a win over Goff and is 2-0 inside the UFC. Let’s see if the Florida native is a prospect or not by if he can get past Brahimaj.

Dustin Jacoby vs. Johnny Walker

Jacoby picked up a second straight knockout win against a hyped Brazilian opponent. This time, a wild brawl against Bruno Lopes led with the American getting his hand raised following a brutal combination of punches. Let’s keep the 37-year-old taking on Brazil’s best as a fight against Walker would allow Jacoby to jump up in competition and allow fans to see if Walker has anything left in the tank after back-to-back losses to Volkan Oezdemir and Magomed Ankalaev. There’s no doubt that “The Hanyak” will force his opponent to throw down and it should be an entertaining scrap.

Ketlen Vieira vs. Ailin Perez

Vieira missed weight once again for her fight against Macy Chiasson. Despite coming in heavy, “Fenomeno” had no problem controlling her opponent over three rounds and getting a unanimous decision win. First up, the Brazilian will have to get her weight issues in check. After that, I’d like to see the 33-year-old take on Perez, who has racked up five straight victories inside the Octagon. A win for either will put them on the short list in the title picture (which is about to be dominated by Amanda Nunes’ comeback), and both women have recently missed weight, so they’ll get to prove they have that under control as well.
